Why Is LED Important To Our Sign Industry?
The light-emitting diode (LED) is a new light source that differs in important ways from existing light sources. LED is a green product which can significantly reduce energy cost, eliminate environmental pollution, and apply to a variety of signage applications. In addition to LED in niche lighting applications such as colored-light products, indoor white-light products, and outdoor white-light products, it has been widely used in Electric Signage. The illuminated signs have gradually adapted LEDs in different ways including back-lit/side-lit light boxes, spot lights, channel letters, and electronic message centers (EMC) for indoor and outdoor usages. This seminar will illustrate a general manufacture process of typical LEDs, outline the benefits of LEDs, and discuss its applications in lighting and signage industries.

Justin Xu graduated from Tulane University of New Orleans with Master Degree in Computer Science and Ph.D. in Engineering in 2003. He is an assistant professor in Computer Science Department at Dillard University of New Orleans. In 2007, he Co-founded Zlight Technology in the state of Louisiana with a LED manufacture in China. Dr. Xu is an active member in International Sign Association (ISA), Special Graphic International Association (SGIA), Light Fair International (LFI), and Department of Energy Solid-State Light Program.
