The purpose of "The Steve Metheny Scholarship Foundation" is to provide financial awards to employees or dependent children of employees of Mid South Sign Association member firms. Preference will be given to students who intend to pursue subjects related to the sign industry. It is the desire of MSSA to promote excellence in our industry by encouraging the young, bright, and talented to further their education.
The application must be mailed along with a current official transcript and current official GPA if not on transcript to the MSSA office and must be received no later than May 1st of each year. New applicants must also submit official ACT or SAT scores if not on transcript. Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applicants are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore answer all questions as completely as possible. “The Steve Metheny Scholarship Foundation” reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and make changes at any time including termination of the program. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Awards are for vocational, undergraduate and graduate study. The scholarship will be awarded during the MSSA Summer Convention. If a recipient is unable to attend the convention, a check will be forwarded to the address listed on the application. The number of awards and amount granted each year may vary depending upon the number of qualified applications received.
Member Eligibility Requirements:
- Eligibility is for any company that is an active, participating member “in good standing” of the Mid South Sign Association as described below:
- A member company must have been a member of MSSA during the calendar year prior to making scholarship application.
- A representative of the MSSA member company must have attended a minimum of one MSSA meeting during the calendar year prior to making scholarship application.
- Additional branches or company locations are considered separate companies that require separate MSSA membership – and must meet participation requirements as described above in “line a” and “line b”.
- Scholarship recipients must meet one of the following employment criteria:
- May be employed by a MSSA member “in good standing” as described above in section 1.
- May be the dependent children of an employee of a MSSA member “in good standing” as described above in section 1.
Applicants for the Steve Metheny Scholarship must:
- Be a current employee or dependent child of a current employee of a MSSA firm in good standing during the year of application for the scholarship and must still be employed by July 1st of that year.
- Be a student who plans to enroll or who is already enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate full-time (12 credit hours per semester or more or 8 hours per quarter if school is on the quarter system) course of study at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational-technical school.
- Have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of applying and completed either the SAT or ACT examination.
- Personally complete application and write essay.
- The Scholarship Award is renewable annually for up to three additional years. See Renewal Application.
- Scholarship finalists are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, industry potential, goals and aspirations and MSSA member participation. Selection will be made by the MSSA Scholarship Award Committee, who, in conjunction with the MSSA Board of Directors, shall have the right to interpret, modify, or discontinue this Scholarship Award Program. All applicants agree to accept the decisions as final. Applicants will be notified by mid-June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Applicants may reapply to the program each year that they meet eligibility requirements.

All submitted forms, transcripts, essays, and information become the property of the Mid South Sigh Association and will not be returned to the applicant. Intentionally falsifying information will result in disqualification and forfeiture of any award.

- High School and/or college transcript ending Fall Quarter or Semester
- Copy of SAT or ACT scores (if not on transcript)
